| About Sea France Ferries |
| SeaFrance celebrates
its 10th anniversary in 2006. The company took over
the Sealink pool in 1996 and is the only French ferry
operator on the Calais Dover route. 2001 saw the
launch of the SeaFrance Rodin, the largest and most
powerful ship on the Short Sea Route. The SeaFrance
Rodin was awarded the 2003-2004 Cruise & Ferry
Award for the Most Innovative New Build Ferry.
In the wake of this success, SeaFrance commissioned
a sister ship, the SeaFrance Berlioz, which was brought
into service in 2005. The company currently has a
fleet of 6 ships and carries out 46 daily crossings,
30 of which are tourism sailings.
The company employs a total of 1,700 staff, including
1,200 seagoing personnel and is the largest employer
in the town of Calais. Its British subsidiary, SeaFrance
Limited based in Dover, employs approximately 200
members of staff.
SeaFrance places great importance on safety. Its
crews undergo rigorous safety training and undertake
regular safety exercises to ensure they are completely
prepared to face any emergency situation.
In 2005, SeaFrance transported:
- 3,212,400 passengers
- 601,800 cars
- 19,000 coaches
- 680,000 trucks
